I'm finally in.

  1. Fantastic. And what a dramatic entry: Cryptic, a nod to Dante and even a photo. Next step for you will be the acquistion of some type of handblogger - then you will be all set.

I'm very happy to have you along now Abbot for what could quite possibly an eternal/infinite ride.

I think that at some point I'm going to just start re-reading Infinite Jest, page by page and see what I/we come up with. You have mentioned that you have been just randomly reading pages since you first read the book. Which is fine, I think. All the same really. Maybe better as such an approach might more closely resemble the String Theory that DFW was so fond of and replicates the complexity and density of IJ.

So - what did you think of my guess that Gately is dead and in the afterlife? I had referred to Dante on a whim. It just popped into my mind. IJ's final image - the freezing, rainy beach - reminded me of the images of Dante's Inferno I'd studied all of those years ago. Could be completely wrong. But who knows? DFW - I think - was quite a game player in his writing, not only enjoying humour - but referencing many classical aspects of knowledge and literature.
