Today I finished page 100 of 981.
881 pages remain.
I do recall that Mr. Ashdale said that the journey of reading would be a breeze from here on in - perhaps like a drive through the fine English countryside.

You talking about the backrub? We don't have to do it in my car.
ReplyDeleteLove the details in that photo.

I did that for you Mr. Ashdale - I know how you like the details.
ReplyDeleteI am at your service...
Sorry to be so cryptic but the words...
"It seems increasingly likely that I really will undertake the expedition that has been preoccupying my imagination now for some days. An expedition, I should say, which I will undertake alone..."
...are the actual opening words from the Ishiguro novel (and the film) which remains one of my favourites.
For some reason, the name "Mr. Ashdale", always conjures up in my mind the image of Anthony Hopkins (Stevens) in a butler's suit...
Please, Mr. Ashdale, take this as a compliment. I hope that the reference I make to Stevens does not ascribe to you a lower station than you deserve. But if you have read the book or seen the film, you will recall that Stevens is in fact one of the most noble (if not tragic) figures in recent film/lit. history...
Indeed! Even cleverer detail sir.
ReplyDeleteI'm on par with Stevens in the banter dept, at the very least.
